Elevating Scientific Storytelling Through AI

Branded scientific glassware illustrations with molecular structures in BrightSpec blue

BrightSpec, a spectroscopy technology company, had inconsistent visuals across their brand touchpoints. Their imagery consisted of generic stock photos that didn’t reflect the brand or communicate the complexity of their work.

Building a repeatable system

I rebranded their design assets with AI as a core part of the workflow, with the goal of building a repeatable system their team could confidently use and expand on. I started by creating initial concepts in Figma, aligning visuals to their key applications like pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, and flavors and fragrances. The challenge was to find visual anchors that would make the set of images feel cohesive and branded: molecular structures (either 3D or flat), at least one glass-like element, text tags for clarity, and a consistent texture and blue tone.

Once the direction was approved, I used ChatGPT to generate additional assets based on the design foundation, and trained the internal team on how to repeat the process themselves through documentation and how-to videos.

The outcome

Despite early hesitation from the client on using AI, the project was a success. Within a week of launch, the client had already begun generating new visuals and was excited to share what she had made. It was proof that, with the right structure, AI can become a practical, creative tool.
